Cottage Art Retreats 2018

Women’s Cottage Art Retreats – Next Retreat To Be Announced

NOTE: The register buttons below are not live.

Ages 17 to Seniors welcome – women only.

These retreats are held at a lovely private cottage just a few minutes south of Bayfield about 1hr 15minutes North of London. (Same location for the past 3 years – we absolutely love it!)

Picture yourself at a beautiful cottage with nothing to do except paint and relax. A very large yard with mature trees to paint under, a second floor deck with lots of comfy lawn chairs, and a beautiful glassed-in kitchen dining area. In a quiet location beside a wooded ravine with farm fields behind, it’s just an aaaah kind of place. Delightful!

GENERAL INFORMATION

Your fee includes accommodation, painting lessons with Cheryl O, and meals!* (See one exception under weekend retreats.)

In the evenings enjoy a bonfire, or a movie on our big screen TV, or paint more if you like. Lots of fun and laughter. It’s a great deal. Don’t take my word for it – simply google Bed & Breakfasts and you will see that you can pay a lot more – and that is without your art instruction, and other meals!

WHAT DO WE PAINT? The  painting theme for cottage retreats is “Painting Bold & Free”- painting techniques to help you loosen up and be more expressive with your paint. Cheryl has been teaching art to adults for 20 years and provides helpful instruction in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Beginners through advanced painters are welcome. Cheryl will bring some references (different ones each year) of her own paintings and/or famous paintings where techniques and colour are used boldly. These will be demonstrated step by step for students. Participants are encouraged to also bring their own references, any subject, and are free to work from these as well. With a group this small (maximum 5 students) you get lots of individual instruction time – great for beginners through to advanced painters. Students bring their own painting supplies, your choice of watercolour or acrylic paint. (If you would like to bring water mixable oils to this retreat, please email Cheryl for details about that.) A list of recommended supplies is found here: Art Supplies

Other things to bring:

  • Bring  your own sheets. A sleeping bag works too, if you prefer. Blankets and pillows are available at the cottage. The cottage has both heat and air conditioning as may be required.
  • Bring your own towels, soaps, shampoos, etc.
  • Tea, coffee, and brita filtered water are provided. NOTE: If you want other types of cold or hot drinks or juice feel free to bring them. If you enjoy wine, you may bring some. P.S. you are not expected to share wine – feel free to bring it for your own enjoyment.
  • Bring one snack to share with 6 people, for example: 6 pieces of fruit, or 1 bag of munchies.

Note: this is not a beach front cottage; although there is beach access a short walk away. It is a narrow beach in this area. There is a more picturesque beach at Bayfield, a 10 minute drive away. Sorry, this cottage is not wheelchair accessible; there are stairs.
