Modigliani Workshop
In Person – London, Ontario
Date: Thursday, September 28th
Time: 9 am to 3:30 pm
Place: Village Green Community Church – use lower entrance (not main doors) off Village Green Ave. Our location has lots of large windows and each painter has their own large table.
Media: Acrylic, Water Mixable Oils (no turpentine allowed in class), or Watercolour (watercolours must bring a tube of white gouache)
Supplies: Find my lists of recommended art supplies here. Plan to work 12″ x 9″ to use the provided linework. Bring a photo of a building plus trees for the afternoon, and 2 supports (canvas or watercolour paper). Please bring a plastic cloth for your table.
Notes: Also bring a bag lunch or go to a nearby restaurant for lunch. Coffee, tea, and water are supplied, please bring your own cup.
Description: In the morning, we will work step by step through Modigliani’s painting. In the afternoon, techniques covered in the morning will be applied to photo references that the students bring of a building plus trees. Each student is responsible for bringing their own reference(s) for the afternoon. However, if you are a slower painter and spend the whole day on the Modigliani – that’s okay too.
Key Concepts: Mixing greens (because you can never have too many green recipes). Simplified shapes. Cool dominance plus warm accents.
“It is fun to be in a group doing the same painting, and I really love seeing the differences in interpretation at the end.”
― Joyce E.
