Casson Workshop

Painting by AJ Casson (detail)

In Person – London, Ontario

Date: Thursday, September 26th

Time: 9 am to 3:30 pm

Place: Village Green Community Church – use lower entrance (not main doors) off Village Green Ave. Our location has lots of large windows and each painter has their own large table.

Media: Acrylic, Water Mixable Oils (no turpentine allowed in class), or Watercolour (watercolours must bring a tube of white gouache)

Supplies: Find my lists of recommended art supplies here. Bring canvas or watercolour paper 12″ x 9″ to use the provided linework. Please also bring a plastic cloth for your table.

Notes: Bring a bag lunch or plan to go to a nearby restaurant for lunch. Coffee, tea, and water are supplied, please bring your own cup.

Description: A. J. Casson was a member of the famous Group of Seven Canadian painters. His wonderful sense of colour and design seen in this painting will be the main topic of this one day workshop. Cheryl will demonstrate and take you step-by-step through the painting.  If you paint quickly, please bring your own photo reference with a lake to try some of the colours and techniques with as well. You will need a second support (watercolour paper or canvas) for this.

Key Concepts: Worth noting – whatever painting we are working through during these once per month Thursdays, I always share colour mixing tips and techniques, as well as compositional tips. There is nothing like learning and immediately applying that knowledge.

“You have such a wonderful gift for breaking down the progressive skills to tackle… It’s empowering!”
― Marian S.
