All Media – Online Interactive

Beginners Through Advanced Painters Welcome

Just $57!

Every Monday that week’s lessons pop up in the course for you to access 24/7 for the duration of the course. Completely convenient – watch the videos at 2 am if that’s what suits you! You can also post your homework, and any questions, into the site for feedback anytime. Convenient and interactive – lots to love about this format.

This course will feature inspiration from 3 paintings by Canadian Group of 7 artist, Tom Thomson. Working step by step through these from videos provided is a great way to grow your art skills.

Note: All coursework is for educational purposes only. To respect copyright, your work is not to be sold or displayed in public. Some of the featured paintings have been cropped.

Tom Thomson – Petawawa Gorges, Spring, 1916

Study compositional aspects of landscape painting while working step by step through this river painting.

Tom Thomson – Storm Clouds, Algonquin Park, Spring 1916

Study painting techniques to capture the motion of storm clouds while working through this dynamic painting.

Tom Thomson – Spring Ice, 1916

Study colour mixing and layering techniques by painting this wonderful lake scene.

Week 4 – Your own reference

Plan to work from your own reference of clouds, lakes, or rivers and apply some of the techniques demonstrated in the first 3 weeks. You may post your painting for Cheryl to critique (optional).

Supplies

Students provide their own paint supplies. There will be 3 paintings demonstrated. each of them is approximately 8” x 10”. If you are taping paper onto a board, allow 1/2 inch more for the tape. Your choice of canvas or watercolour paper.

Optional: Students are encouraged to do a second painting using the techniques taught each week, working from their own reference. In that case, more supports are needed.

Find my lists of recommended art supplies here.

Important: In order to work from the line work provided, you will need a black and white printer or the ability to take photos on a USB device to Staples or another copy place to have black and white prints made. Or, you have the option of free hand sketching your line work instead. Then your painting could be any size – but please not smaller than 8″ x 10″ or details will be frustrating.

This is a chance for everyone to join in, both those who have never taken a course from me, and those who have taken lots.

Don’t miss this opportunity!

Registration will close at 11:59 pm ET on Friday, March 20th

Painters of all levels are welcome: beginners through advanced.

All media welcome.

Note: Painting demonstrations will be in acrylic, with notes for other media added.
