Here is a fun interactive webpage comparing the size of – well – lots of things. I really like to stretch my mind and imagination with some of these thoughts. I am delighted to be part of a group of painters featured this week in an article by ArtProMotivate. Here is the link, I’m sure you will enjoy the other paintings too: “20 Colorful Abstract Paintings for Inspiration“. My featured painting below, is #3 in the article, and the original is for sale. It is 24″ x 30 “. What you don’t see well in the photo is the fact that this painting has a lot of texture from collage material and thick paint. It’s a sensual experience. I am so in love with colour! Colours and the way that they interact hold endless fascination and equally endless expressive possibilities. Most artists have a few favourite colours that they incorporate into many paintings. For the last while, there seems to be a lot of quinacridone nickle azo gold, or beige and ochre combinations in my work. I came across this article written with home decorating in mind, but I see no reason at all that these beautiful palettes could not be used in a painting. I am eager to try some myself. It was a lovely day! The weather was perfect – those rain clouds did not do anything. And it was busy! I met a lot of new people who are interested in art classes and look forward to seeing them again there. Congratulations to Betty D and Mary Lou R, my students who also had art at the event. We each had painting sales as well – a good day all round.

I’m guessing that a lot of artists have several paintings or painting ideas that they are waiting to find time to try. So, if that is true for you, how do you keep track of these? Do you make lists? Do you keep scrap paper nearby for capturing these inspirations? Or do you use your iphone or ipad to track these sparks? I have not been too disciplined about this. Yet I have the distinct sensation that some good ideas are getting lost in the gray matter so … I think I need to make a new habit. How about you? 

This Saturday June 8 looks like being a fantastic art event in downtown London. They are closing off Dundas Street from Richmond to Clarence St – and there will be art – in many forms! Dancers, musicians, painters, actors – should be a fun family oriented day. I will be there with some of my paintings and prints. That’s 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Wet oil paintings can be difficult to take from here to there without getting that paint all over the car – not desirable! Here’s a method that works for me. Cut a piece of light plastic corrigated board (available at art stores) to be just a little larger than your canvas size. Then, when painting, be careful not to paint the corners of the canvas, leaving about a half inch square of blank canvas in each corner on the surface. Into those 4 unpainted corners put a very generous gob of sticky tac and then press the corrigated board firmly on top. Once in place, the canvas can be put into a plastic bag, and then into your car with no fear of getting oil paint anywhere it is not wanted. I have even successfully bicycled with a wet canvas hanging in its bag from the handle bars using this method! 

The art is up – and looks fabulous! The opening on Saturday was really fun – lots of people came out to cheer us on and enjoy the art. Your enthusiasm was appreciated! The show continues at Westmount Branch Libary, Wonderland Rd S, London until June 29th during library hours. This means that you still have a chance to come and see the paintings from this year’s students. Below is just a wee sample of some of the 31 paintings there.
