This 6 week course will cover a variety of techniques that encourage free expression in paint. It’s a great way to loosen up and to find your unique visual voice. With just 6 students in each session, all your questions will be addressed.
Coloured references will be supplied each week. Optional: Participants are also encouraged to bring their own skies and trees references and may choose to work from those instead, using the techniques being taught. Plan to work approximately 9” x 12” and 12” x 12” – 3 of each size. Please always have 1 extra blank canvas or watercolour sheet at each class since some of the techniques will require drying time.
Classes include demonstrations by Cheryl, as well as painting time for participants. Please note the required supplies listed below.
Supplies
Students may use acrylic, watercolour, or oil for this course. Each week’s lessons take into account the variables of paint types. (Plan to work in one paint type, you do not need all 3.)
Layering is a theme throughout. Fluid acrylic will need a heavy body titanium white, watercolours will need white gouache, and oil painters (watermixable only allowed in class) may want to consider doing initial layers in acrylics if they also have some (recommended but not required). A palette knife is needed for some of the paintings, for all paint types.

About the Timeslots
Each participant comes just once per week in the time slot that they have chosen. The other time slots for each week teach the identical lesson that week. This is in order to accommodate more students, since six is the maximum number of students for each group.
No class the week of October 12 and 13 for Thanksgiving. Last day of all sessions is October 26 or October 27.
When you register, you are choosing a specific time and day, once per week. These are not exchangeable, so please be sure to purchase the one that you want.
Refund Policy
Full refund minus $25 administration fee if requested by September 18th, 2026. Note, this allows you to ‘try’ a lesson for just $25, if you have not taken a course from me before.
