Blue Moon

The expression is “once in a blue moon” – so does the moon ever go blue? Apparently it can. I’ve seen some marvelous red moons, known as “blood moons”. They are really spectacular. I’ve never seen a blue one though. Here’s the science  behind it on: The Weather Network

Science Shows What Art Can Do For Us

Art has many benefits. Studies show that an hour wandering an art gallery can reduce the level of hormones that indicate stress. You don’t have to be an art history buff or artist to benefit. When viewing art, your brain automatically goes into a mode that has to do with processing emotions and activating pleasure and reward centers. And those who benefitted the very most? Those who actually made art. Definite benefits for the areas of the brain that have to do with introspection, self-monitoring, and (that biggie we all worry about) memory were found for those who made art. More reasons than ever to consider an art class! Although I don’t mind at all if you come simply because it’s a lot of fun. Here’s the full article at Arts.Mic. And here’s the link to upcoming art courses: Art Courses with Cheryl O

Perfect is Not Going to Happen

I had it wrong. For so many years, I thought that I had to work hard to be perfect and then everything would fall into place. Ha! So many things are great about getting older. Perfectionism gets replaced with other more joyful things such as: honesty, passion, laughter. Giving up on being perfect is freeing! I suppose it is like an art journey. You start out wanting to paint the perfect realistic painting. Then as you gain strength with your art, it becomes less ‘perfect’ and much more fun and expressive. Yes! So I hope for you too, in life and and art, that the journey becomes more and more fun and expressive. Perfect is not going to happen, and that is more than okay!

So Much Creative Fun!

Just loving the group of students this week in the Wet & Wild class! Paint pourings galore – so much colour – so much fun. I’ll try to have some photos for you next week. And, yes, we really did need the gold foil that happens to be around certain types of chocolates. 🙂

Square Foot Show – Westland Gallery

I’m looking forward to the Square Foot Show Opening – this Friday July 17 at 7:30 pm. I will have 3 paintings in the show, including the one featured here. I’m also happy that so many of my students and previous students are participating in this show. Hope that you can drop in to see the art and say hi. If you can’t make the opening, the show continues until August 15 at Westland Gallery in Wortley Village.

Talking To Yourself – It’s Good!

I don’t do it all the time, but I have actually come to understand that talking through something out loud – yes – to myself, can help to clarify things. Here’s an interesting article. It mentions this, and other times that talking to yourself can be useful. It can even indicate an intelligent person who is more independent! Sounds good to me – literally. Here’s the article: “People Who Talk to Themselves Aren’t Crazy, They Are Actually Geniuses” from Elite Daily.
