Somewhere between abstract and realism, I felt a strong sense of motion, power, and grace in the flow of colour that happened here. “Spirit of the Wind” 30″ x 36″ acrylic $810. + HST – available from the artist. 

There are times when it seems there is an abstract painting calling out to me to give birth to it. Often I am too busy with course planning or other things in life to pay attention. This time I listened. I have for quite awhile noticed my dislike of the word “balance”. It seems to me that balance in life fights against a passionate immersion into creativity. This painting is a celebration of the idea of leaving balance behind. Can you sense that in the painting? Just got back from 2 amazing weeks in Italy. Venice, Florence, Cinque Terre, Lake Como – and the wonderful Italian countryside dotted with charming medieval towns. So many delightful photo references – expect I will be painting every moment possible! The watercolour below was done during the trip on watercolour paper. Door – Venice, 8″ x 11″. 

There has not been much activity on my blog of late. I am ‘unplugging’ for awhile – and expect to be back to twice per week blogging again after July 11. Thanks for understanding – and I hope you are having a good summer too!

I’m excited to be part of an art show at Westmount Art Centre in Westmount Mall, London Ontario this weekend. The show runs Friday through Sunday, with the opening being Friday night May 9, 6pm to 9pm. Hope you can drop by! 

                           This painting was done in the current Wet & Wild class. The flow of colour that happens with paint pouring is always unpredictable, but often dynamic.
