Just Painting
With just a few weeks left before I need to switch my focus back to teaching, I am trying something new with painting. It’s always exciting to try something new – watching the first shapes and colours form, liking them, building on top. I think that I will skip my blog post for tomorrow, and hope to have something new to show you by Thursday. Happy painting to my artist friends – hope you may try something new too! And a happy St. Paddy’s Day to all.
The Happiness Factor
This 12 minute Ted talk is fast paced and interesting. Among many fascinating facts it is mentioned that being happy releases dopamine which turns on all the learning centers in your brain. So – to get smarter, to get more creative – get happy! Shawn Anchor: Acheiving Long Term Happiness.
Life on the Edge
Just finished this 40″ x 30″ acrylic painting. It was done from a photo that I took in Northern B.C. It doesn’t show at all well in the photo, but I have collaged a small Canadian ammolite into this painting. Ammolites come from our Rocky Mountains, and it just felt appropriate – and maybe a bit magical too. Painting available from the artist: $1420.00 + HST
Paint Ontario
Quite delighted to have 3 paintings accepted to the Paint Ontario show in Grand Bend. Here is the information if you would like to go: Paint Ontario – Lambton Heritage Museum. Seeing these 2 up close, you can try to spot the stones and semi precious stones that I have integrated into the work.
Drawing – because it works
More about drawing… When beginners are learning to draw, they get tired. We all do when concentrating on a difficult task. Like building up your muscles when weight training, the ideal time to keep at it is just a little bit longer than you would like to. I recommend using a timer. If you find that you can work comfortably for 15 minutes, try setting the timer for 20 minutes for the next few days. Continue this until you can comfortably work for about 35 minutes. That seems to be a good maximum goal for intense concentration. It really is like exercising. You are training your mind to concentrate, which can benefit other areas in life as well. All good!
Just Because
Nothing profound or artsy is coming forth in the gray matter this morning, so I thought I’d just send you some flowers and say – hope you have a lovely weekend.
