This painting has about 7 layers of paint, and I’m loving the sense of depth that this creates. The collaged glass dots suddenly reminded me of those dots on maps that you see in malls or at the start of a hiking trail – and so the title “You Are Here”. This one was painted mostly from life. While observing the beautiful vase of sunflowers and painting, I also had a photo of one of Vincent van Gogh’s sunflower painting beside me. That way I could try to use some of his brush strokes and techniques in my own sunflower painting.
